...book title one wishes to use is under copyright? I would like to know where or how I can find out if a book title I have in mind is already protected by copyright as well as can you use the same title with a different subtitle? Is there a definitive source for this information?

I saw your previous question, and I wanted to let you know that a title CANNOT be copyrighted. Think about it. There is a movie called "Saw." A 3 letter word cannot be copyrighted. A caveat, however. If the title is a trademark, like Bambi, or Strawberry Shortcake, then the trademark cannot be used within your title. My husband is a horror author (House of Blood, and Deathbringer coming up 02/06 at all your bookstores). Call up any publisher and ask them.
